Meeting the Needs of People with Disabilities

LSE willingly accepts the challenge of addressing the dynamic employment needs of community members with disabilities in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester counties. We believe people benefit from performing meaningful work and getting paid for their efforts. Positive work experiences translate into better social skills, higher self esteem, and increased personal satisfaction. Our workers learn skills that help them on the job and through their entire lives.

LSE seeks to enable all workers to be a valuable part of the local workforce and contributing members of their community. We accomplish this challenge by developing relationships with workers that are based on mutual respect and a true desire to see them succeed. All workers at LSE are eligible to participate in volunteer and paid experiences in the community that helps them prepare for the future.

Workers receive individualized case management services that assist them in reaching unique, attainable personal and employment goals. Workers also have the opportunity to participate in social activities at LSE and in conjunction with other organizations such as The Friendship Club and Salisbury University’s Best Buddies Colleges program. In addition to career and life skills training, LSE coordinates with local and state resources to offer assistance to the community through worker’s compensation evaluations, ADA consultation services, disability advocacy and worker retraining.

What Sets LSE Apart from Other Programs?

Real Pay for Real Work

Workers at LSE receive hourly wages – much like their colleagues in competitive jobs. In fact, nearly all of the revenue that production department workers generated in contract income last year was paid back to them in salaries. These workers also receive at least annual pay reviews based on their performance. So, if workers become faster and more productive and show good attitude and effort, their pay rises. The significant sums that workers receive each week, helps motivate them to develop their social skills and work ethic – key ingredients to landing competitive jobs. Weekly wages at LSE far exceed those of programs paying piece rate.

A Bright Future

Workers who develop their social skills and work ethic to levels needed by local businesses can rely on LSE’s award-winning placement services to help find competitive jobs. In fact, workers are continually reassessed with the hope that they’re ready to move up to competitive employment. This hope creates higher expectations, greater hope and more self-respect.

Work Ready?

Workers who come to LSE with experience or the skills to hit the ground running are immediately teamed up with our Community Workplace Coordinator to start on the path to community placement. The CWC will meet with individuals, their families and team members to ensure that all supports necessary are there for the worker and their employer to guarantee success. This support will continue throughout employment no matter how long a worker is at a job. LSE remains available to step back in if a worker learns new tasks or needs additional supports.
